Six Reps Rivers lawmakers defect to APC

The House of Representatives on Tuesday recorded another wave of defections as six lawmakers from Rivers State dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The defecting lawmakers are Rep. Dumnamere Dekor (Khana/Gokana federal constituency), Rep. Solomon Bob (Abua/Odual and Ahoada East federal constituency) and Rep. Hart Cyril (Degema/Bonny federal constituency).

Others are: Rep. Victor Obuzor (Ahoada West/Ogba-Egbema/Ndoni federal constituency), Rep. Blessing Amadi (Port Harcourt II federal constituency) and Rep. Felix Nweke (Eleme/Oyigbo/Tai federal constituency).

Their letters of defection, read on the floor by Speaker Abbas Tajudeen, cited irreconcilable differences and deepening internal divisions within the PDP, as well as their resolve to support President Bola Tinubu’s administration, as reasons for their decision.

The latest development follows the recent defection of the Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, from the PDP to the APC.

Last week, Parliament Reports had reported that four other Rivers lawmakers defected to the APC. They are Rep. Awaji Inombek (PDP), Rep. Boma Goodhead (PDP), Rep. Manuchim Umezurike (Labour Party) and Rep. Boniface Emerengwa (PDP).

With the defection, the PDP now has only three members from Rivers in the House of Representatives: the Minority Leader, Rep. Kingsley Chinda; Rep. Kenneth Chikere (Port Harcourt 1 federal constituency and Rep. Kelechi Nwogu, member representing Etche/Omuma federal Constituency.

Tuesday’s defection ceremony was witnessed by the APC Deputy National Chairman (North), Ali Dalori; the party’s National Vice Chairman (South-South), Victor Giadom; and other national officers of the party.
