The House of Representatives Committee on Housing and Habitat has granted the management of the MOFI Real Estate Investment Fund (MREIF) a one-week extension to appear before it as part of an ongoing investigation into the administration and operations of the housing fund.

The committee had initially summoned MREIF Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Armstrong Ume Takang, alongside the fund’s management team, to appear before lawmakers on Tuesday, June 2, 2026.

The hearing forms part of the committee’s review of the fund’s implementation, performance and several petitions submitted against its operations.

Chairman of the committee, Rep. Abdulmumin Jibrin, said the probe is intended to ensure that MREIF is delivering on its mandate and meeting the expectations of President Bola Tinubu’s administration regarding affordable housing and homeownership.

According to him, the committee is determined to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the fund’s activities while addressing concerns raised in petitions before it.

However, in a letter addressed to the committee, Dr. Takang acknowledged the summons and reaffirmed MREIF’s commitment to legislative oversight and cooperation with the National Assembly.

The MREIF chief explained that he was outside Abuja on an official assignment that had been scheduled before he received the invitation and requested that the hearing be rescheduled.

He also assured lawmakers of the fund’s readiness to fully cooperate with the committee’s investigation and maintain its partnership with the legislature.

Responding to the request, Rep. Jibrin said the committee had, in the spirit of fairness and cooperation, agreed to shift the hearing to Tuesday, June 9, 2026.

He stressed that the extension was granted specifically to enable the Managing Director to attend the session in person, insisting that his physical appearance is crucial to the committee’s inquiry.

“The extension is to ensure that the Managing Director/CEO appears personally before the committee, which is essential to our investigation,” Rep. Jibrin said.

The lawmaker reiterated the committee’s commitment to a thorough, transparent and objective investigation aimed at ensuring that the fund effectively delivers on its mandate of expanding access to affordable homeownership.

He added that the panel remains focused on addressing all issues raised in the petitions before it and ensuring accountability in the implementation of the housing initiative.

Jibrin further stated that the committee expects Dr. Takang and the entire MREIF management team to appear before lawmakers on June 9 to provide explanations on matters relating to the fund’s operations and performance.
