Public hearing on the tax reform bills in the House of Representatives has been scheduled to hold from Tuesday 25 to 27th February, 2025
The House of Representatives has announced that next week’s plenary will be suspended to hold a three days public hearing on President Bola Tinubu’s Tax Reform bills.
Speaker of the House, Rep. Tajudeen Abbas, who made the announcement on Wednesday said, the three days public hearing will commence on Tuesday 25th February and end on 27th February, 2025 by 10am each day at the temporary chambers.
Abbas noted that the three days public hearing is to allow for wider participation of stakeholders.
He also encouraged all members and stakeholders to participate as this will ensure that a comprehensive understanding is reached on the bills.
The four tax reform bills which include the Nigerian Tax Bill, the Nigeria Tax Administration Bill, the Joint Revenue Board Bill and the Nigeria Revenue Service Bill, were first transmitted to the House of Representatives on October 23, 2024 by President Tinubu.

The bills which aimed to simplify Nigeria’s tax system, reduce multi-layered taxation, expand the tax base, enhance compliance, and generate sustainable revenue for national development passed second reading in the House on February 12, 2025 after long hours of deliberation by members.
Earlier on Tuesday, the speaker had announced the expanded committee for the public hearing to be chaired by Rep Abiodun Faleke (APC, Lagos) while the deputy chairman, House committee on finance, Rep. Saidu Abdullahi (APC Niger), will act as his deputy.
“Other members of the committee are the leader of the northern caucus in the House, Rep. Alhassan Ado-Doguwa, leader of the southern caucus, Rep. Nicholas Mutu; chairman of the north-west caucus, Rep. Sada Soli; chairman of the south-east caucus, Rep. Idu Igariwey; and the south-south chairman, Rep. Fred Agbedi, among others.”
