Late Adewumi Onanuga’s seat at Tuesday’s plenary was covered in white as members offered prayers and adjourned plenary to Wednesday

The House of Representatives and Senate on Tuesday adjourned plenary session in honour of the memory of late deputy Chief Whip of the House Rep. Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga.
The member who represented Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo north federal constituency passed away on January 15, 2025 after a brief illness.
The deputy speaker, Rep. Benjamin Kalu (APC Abia), who presided over Tuesday’s session while announcing the adjournment, said her seat is today covered in white.
“She served as the deputy chief whip of the House; she also served as the chair, House committee on women affairs and social development in the 9th House of Representatives 2019 – 2023.
“Her pictures are on the screen, her seat in the front roll of the chamber is today covered in white.”
Kalu, however asked members to stand up to offer prayers and a minute silence in repose of her soul.
Rep. Sani Madaki (NNPP Kano), offered the Muslim prayers while the Minority Leader of the House Rep. Kingsley Chinda (PDP Rivers), prayed the Christian prayers.
Thereafter, Leader of the House, Rep. Julius Ihonbvere (APC Edo), moved for the adjournment of House to next legislative day.
Similarly in the Senate, the Leader, Opeyemi Bemidele (APC, Ekiti Central) moved a motion for the senate to adjourn its legislative session in honour of Onanuga.
The senate after a brief tribute, observed a minute of silence in her honour before plenary was adjourned.
The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, also announced that some of the senators will pay a condolence visit to the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.
