Governor Adeleke Campaign Council has faulted the APC Chairman’s ‘Trailer vs Keke Napep’ remark, says deployment of political heavyweights reflects arrogance ahead of Osun governorship poll
The Imole Campaign Council (TICC), the campaign organisation for Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, has dismissed claims by the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, that the party’s array of political heavyweights would guarantee victory in the August 15, 2026 governorship election.
The council said the APC’s confidence in deploying governors, members of the National Assembly, local government chairmen and other party leaders to Osun reflected political arrogance and a misunderstanding of the state’s electoral dynamics.
In a statement issued on by the Chairman of its Media and Publicity Committee, Rep. Bamidele Salam, the council faulted Yilwatda’s “trailer versus Keke Napep” analogy, insisting that elections are decided by voters rather than the number of influential politicians a party can mobilise.
According to the council, the people of Osun are capable of making independent decisions based on the performance of the incumbent administration and do not require political figures from outside the state to determine their future.
“The APC National Chairman may have assembled what he calls a political trailer, but he should understand that the people of Osun State are not political cargo to be moved around by outsiders. They are the owners of the mandate, and they alone will determine who governs them,” the statement said.
The campaign maintained that the August 15 election would be a choice between what it described as a performing governor with widespread public support and an opposition candidate still struggling to gain acceptance among voters.
It argued that Governor Adeleke had earned the goodwill of residents through what it called visible achievements in road infrastructure, healthcare, education, workers’ welfare, water supply, agriculture and youth empowerment.
The council also described the APC governorship candidate, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, as lacking the popularity needed to independently mobilise the electorate, claiming the party’s dependence on external political figures underscored his weakness.
It urged the APC to focus its campaign on policy alternatives rather than political rhetoric and the perceived strength of its national structure.
“The people are interested in issues, performance and credible leadership, not political metaphors,” the statement added.
The Imole Campaign Council further called on the opposition party to respect the intelligence of Osun voters and allow them to determine the outcome of the governorship election based on the records and programmes presented by the candidates.
