The House Ad-hoc Committee is set to investigate the implementation of Nigeria’s Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) policy
The House of Representatives has inaugurated an ad-hoc committee to investigate the implementation of Nigeria’s Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) policy.
Chairman of the committee, Rep. Ahmadu Jaha (APC–Borno), who spoke during the inauguration ceremony in Abuja recently, said that the mandate included assessing the safety, viability and sustainability of the CNG policy in Nigeria.
He noted that a key part of the committee’s mandate is to ensure that the Executive Arm of Government establish CNG centres equitably across the country to give all Nigerians a sense of belonging.
Jaha added that the committee would engage relevant government agencies, International Oil Companies (IOCs), and other stakeholders to drive effective implementation. It will also review existing legal and regulatory frameworks, and propose necessary legislative interventions.
Jaha said that he was grateful to the leadership of the house for the composition of the committee saying that it is made up of very experienced, active and hardworking lawmakers.
“I therefore urge you all to look at the mandate of the committee as gleaned from the votes and proceedings to guide our deliberations in order to enhance the work plan already being drafted by the secretariat,” he said.
The House had earlier, in May 2025, adopted a motion titled “Call to Establish More Compressed Natural Gas Conversion Centres Across Nigeria”. The resolution called on the Federal Government to ensure equitable distribution of CNG centres and led to the constitution of the 11-member ad-hoc committee by Speaker Abbas Tajudeen.
