President Tinubu is set to present the proposed 2026 budget to a joint session of National Assembly on Friday

President Bola Tinubu has officially communicated his intention to present the 2026 budget proposal to a joint session of the National Assembly on Friday, December 19, 2025.
In a formal letter addressed to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rep. Tajudeen Abbas, the president craved the indulgence of lawmakers to present the 2026 budget before the joint session.
“I write to crave the kind indulgence of the House of Representatives to grant me the slot of 1400 hours on Friday 19th December 2025 to formally present the 2026 budget to a joint session of the National Assembly.” the president wrote.
Meanwhile, lawmakers expressed concern that the 2:00 pm timing would clash with Friday Juma’at prayers, prompting the speaker to assure the House that he would convey the concern to the president and request that the presentation be shifted to 3:00 pm.
Parliament Reports recalls that President Tinubu had transmitted the 2026–2028 Medium-Term Expenditure Framework MTEF and Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP) to the House last Wednesday for legislative consideration.
The documents were subsequently referred to the joint committees Finance and National Planning and Economic Development, which held a public hearing on Tuesday with key members of the economic management team, including the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and the Minister of Budget and National Planning.
Parliament Reports had also reported that the MTEF/FSP document submission to the National Assembly by the president fell short of the recommendation of four months’ submission requirement before the end of a fiscal year as stipulated in the session 11(a) & (b) of the Fiscal Responsibility Act.
