Former Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Kingsley Chinda, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 Rivers State governorship election after recording a sweeping victory in the party’s primaries.

Chinda secured 268,497 valid votes in the exercise conducted across the state, following the withdrawal of other aspirants, including the incumbent Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Architect Tonye Cole and Dr Dakorisiye George-Kelly, hours before the commencement of the primaries.

The outcome of the exercise was disclosed in a statement issued by Rep. Chinda’s Press Secretary, Ekesunnie Caleb.

Announcing the result, Chairman of the APC Governorship and House of Assembly Primaries Committee, Rep. Laori Kwamoti, said Chinda met all constitutional and party requirements to emerge as the party’s flag bearer.

Rt. Hon. Kingsley Chinda scored 268,497 valid votes cast to clinch the ticket, having satisfied the constitutional requirements and party regulations,” Rep. Kwamoti stated.

The primaries reportedly witnessed a massive turnout of party supporters and loyalists, especially in Rep. Chinda’s hometown of Elelenwo, where he participated in the voting process amid cheers from APC members and supporters.

Reacting to his emergence, Rep. Chinda pledged to provide purposeful leadership anchored on the fear of God, respect for the rule of law and accountability if elected governor in 2027.

He also promised to run an inclusive government that would accommodate all interests within the party and across the state.

“It is going to be a teamwork. My theme has always been ‘I win, you win’. The party is going to sit down and chart the course and process moving forward,” he said.

Chinda further commended the aspirants who stepped down from the race, describing their actions as a sacrifice that contributed to the peaceful and credible conduct of the primaries.

He also expressed appreciation to party leaders and delegates for entrusting him with the ticket, promising not to betray their confidence.

Parliament Reports recalls that Rep. Chinda, a former member of the Peoples Democratic Party, is consummate legislator, accomplished activist, and battle-horned lawyer before ascending the political ladder of the federal legislature.
