Deputy Speaker Kalu emerges APC Bende candidate

The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rep. Benjamin Kalu, has secured the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for the Bende Federal Constituency in the 2027 general elections, emerging unopposed.

According to a press statement issued on May 16, 2026, from the Office of the Deputy Speaker and signed by his Special Assistant on Press Affairs, Udora Orizu, Kalu was affirmed as the party’s sole candidate through a consensus process conducted across the 13 electoral wards of Bende Federal Constituency in Abia State.

The wards involved in the exercise include Bende, Itumbuzo, Uzuakoli, Umuhu, Ozuitem, Umeimenyi Nkpa, Igbere A, Igbere B, Item A, Item B, Item C, Alayi and Ugwueke Ezeukwu.

The affirmation exercise was held simultaneously across the wards, with APC members reportedly turning out in large numbers at their respective ward offices to participate in the process.

Party stakeholders, ward executives, and delegates described Kalu’s unopposed emergence as a show of confidence in his leadership and performance at the National Assembly.

They commended his legislative contributions, grassroots engagement, and efforts toward fostering unity within the party, adding that his representation has attracted developmental projects to the constituency and strengthened its voice at the national level.

Following his affirmation, Kalu expressed appreciation to party members, traditional rulers, youths, women groups, and constituents for their continued support and trust.

He pledged to deepen his service to the constituency, promising more democratic dividends and policies aimed at improving welfare, expanding economic opportunities, and promoting inclusive governance in Bende Federal Constituency.

The Deputy Speaker reaffirmed his commitment to effective representation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
