Speaker Abbas Tajudeen has declared his intention for a 5th term comeback into the House of Representatives

The Speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, on Saturday formally declared his intention to seek a fifth consecutive term representing Zaria Federal Constituency of Kaduna State, attracting what organisers described as a mammoth crowd of supporters and party loyalists.
The declaration ceremony, held at the Mallawa Eid Ground in Zaria, witnessed thousands of supporters thronging the venue in a show of solidarity for the Speaker, who has represented the constituency since 2011.
According to a statement issued by the Speaker’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Krishi, more than 15,000 supporters participated in a solidarity march from the Emir’s Palace through major parts of Zaria before arriving at the venue of the declaration.
Addressing the crowd, Abbas said his decision to seek another mandate was anchored on what he described as visible and measurable achievements recorded during his years in office.
“Today, I formally declare my intention to seek another mandate to represent the good people of Zaria Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives,” he said.
“This declaration is not based on promises alone. It is based on work. It is based on results. It is based on a record that our people can see and verify.”
The Speaker said his representation had brought several development projects and empowerment programmes to the constituency, insisting that leadership must translate into practical benefits for citizens.
He highlighted interventions in agriculture, transport, education, healthcare and infrastructure, noting that farmers received tractors, fertilisers and agricultural equipment, while transport operators and youth groups benefited from tricycles and motorcycles.
According to him, over 117 vehicles, 200 tricycles and 1,000 motorcycles were distributed across communities and grassroots support groups.
Abbas also disclosed that 2,400 beneficiaries received financial support through empowerment programmes, with 800 trained individuals receiving N250,000 each and 1,600 small business owners receiving N100,000 each.
“That is practical representation. That is the kind of leadership our people deserve,” he stated.
On education, the Speaker said he facilitated the establishment of an Education City project in Zaria valued at about N80 billion, describing it as a strategic investment in the future of Northern Nigeria.
He further revealed that about 30,000 students benefited from a N5 billion scholarship programme under his representation, while several schools were rehabilitated and educational institutions expanded.
Speaking on healthcare, Abbas said primary healthcare centres had been facilitated across communities to improve access to medical services.
He also referenced the recent commissioning of a 100-bed specialist hospital in the constituency, which he said was supported by President Bola Tinubu.
The Speaker equally highlighted legislative achievements since assuming office as Speaker of the 10th House, noting that before his emergence as Speaker, he sponsored 74 bills, 21 of which were signed into law.
He added that the current House had introduced over 2,000 bills within two years, with more than 180 passed and over 50 already assented to by the President.
Abbas said the House had strengthened laws relating to security, education and economic reforms while also recovering billions of naira through oversight functions.
He urged constituents to support his re-election bid, stressing that continuity and experienced leadership were necessary for sustained development in the constituency.
“This is not the time for uncertainty. This is not the time for experiments. This is the time to consolidate the progress we have made together,” he said.
The Speaker also used the occasion to commend President Tinubu for what he described as courageous leadership amid ongoing reforms, while praising Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, for efforts toward peace and development in the state.
He further thanked the leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress, traditional rulers, religious leaders, youths, women and supporters across Zaria and Sabon Gari for their continued support.
Several APC stakeholders who attended the event reportedly hailed Abbas for his leadership and representation of the constituency.
